The Training Program started with a 2-day detailed course for the OMIFCO HSE employees. The second two days did consists of four half-day sessions, where all OMIFCO employees were invited. The content of each session were the summary and highlights of the Specific HSE Risks in Ammonia and Urea Plants. The evaluation showed that these four days were very much appreciated and many valuable and practical learning points were discussed how to reduce safety hazards in ammonia and urea plants.
From 16-20 September 2018, AICHE organised its yearly Ammonia Safety Conference, this year in Toronto. AmmoniaKnowHow.com and UreaKnowHow.com did contribute again to the conference with two presentations. The conference was well attended by some 325 participants from all over the world. On the first day just after the first break “The Lessons Learned from the First 100 Safety Hazards In Urea Plants” was presented based on a paper prepared by Prem Baboo of National Fertilizers Limited, Mark Brouwer and Jo Eijkenboom of UreaKnowHow.com B.V. and Majid Mohammadian of OCI N.V. During the Round Tables on Thursday Dan Cojocaru of AmmoniaKnowHow.com presented to the audience FIORDA: The Fertilizer Industry Operational Risk Database. Click here for the complete report
This training program examines the causes and prevention of ammonia and urea incidents. It categorises the key hazards which must be controlled and reviews in detail the most common hazards associated with ammonia and urea plants. The course draws upon the past industry accidents and incidents, as well as errors in design, sometimes only revealed in operation. You will gain an understanding of the key operation, maintenance and plant modification aspects which must be controlled to ensure safe operation of ammonia and urea plants. You will better understand the principles of inherent safety and their application to existing facilities. This practical course discusses numerous real-life examples that can help establish a safer, more efficient and more profitable plant. A Certificate of Completion will be part of this Training Program.

UreaKnowHow.com now introduces the UreaKnowHow Revamp Guide with the target to guide your through the forest of possible revamp options promoted by the different licensors.
Which revamp option makes sense in my urea plant, what are the references and what are the pay back times?
The Revamp Guide distinguishes the various revamp targets such as Capacity Increase, Energy Reduction, Emission Reduction, On-stream Time Improvement, Product Quality Improvement and Safety Improvement. And also distinguishes between the various plant sections and equipment.
It explains the basic principles of a certain revamp tool and its typical realisation in realising the targets plus defines its major references.
FIORDA – the Fertilizer Industry Operational Risks Database, is created for collecting and sharing process safety and reliability information among participating companies in the fertilizer industry.
How you can benefit from FIORDA?
FIORDA can identify patterns and trends of similar safety and reliability issues based on repetitive problems occurring in the same plant units or equipment and alert operators to the occurrence of these events,
Through FIORDA database, operators can compare the experiences from different plants such as frequency of an event, severity of the outcome and applied corrective actions,
Corrective actions developed by other operators may be less costly than those tried in the absence of this information,
FIORDA members can develop their own internal incidents database using FIORDA free provided software HAZARDO®.
On May 17 & 18 the 2nd European Conference on Sustainable Ammonia Solutions was organised again by Proton Ventures in Rotterdam. Using ammonia for storing and transporting efficiently green energy from solar and wind is one side of the coin. The other side is that ammonia can also be used as a CO2 free fuel in several fairly simple manners. Currently costs may be high but several niche applications become economically viable and are under implementation.
Considering the giant size of the energy market it is just a matter of time that the fertilizer industry will start to notice the effects of these developments towards a carbon free energy carrier. Click here for more information
