2024 Novel compounds target nitrifiers not blocked by current inhibitors

Commercial nitrification inhibitors only block part of the nitrifying organisms in soil. Nitrifiers that are not targeted by these inhibitors have an open field to start ammonia oxidation. Scientists are therefore eagerly looking for compounds that fill the gap left open by current inhibitors.
