TOYO ENGINEERING CORPORATION (TOYO), a licensor and EPC contractor of urea plants, has designed, engineered, constructed and commissioned over 120 urea plants based
on its own technologies since 1960’s. Through lots of experience and feedback obtained at each of R&D/FEED (Front End Engineering & Design), EPC, and O&M (Operation & Maintenance) stages, TOYO has been improving performance, reliability and maintainability of its process. TOYO has developed and started the operation of ‘DX-PLANTTM/Fertilizer’ to contribute enhancing our customers’ value in the O&M field.
This paper reviews potential corrosion modes which may take place in various sections of
urea plant including but not limited to the synthesis section. This paper also presents preventive measures against corrosion including optimum materials selection and inspection at turnaround. This paper also introduces a new predictive measure against corrosion by applying online corrosion monitoring technology.
Acquiring knowledge of TOYO’s ‘strategic’ material selection and anti-corrosion technology suitable for the urea plants, on which many types of corrosion form are observed, will enable
the long-time safe operation.
