Energy saving is always possible in older Ammonia-Urea-Utilities plants by systematic and concerted efforts. Zuari Industries Ltd., Goa has achieved a specific energy reduction of 0.5 Gcal/MT of Urea over a period of last 5 years. most of the schemes implemented were conceived and developed internally. While some schemes resulted in direct saving of fuel, most of schemes implemented resulted in the reduction in the consumption of low/medium pressure steam. The challenge was to convert the saving achieved in low/medium pressure steam in Boilers, thereby reducing fuel consumption. This challenge was successfully met by Zuari Industries Limited.
