A fire at a fertilizer plant in xxx on Tuesday (August 20, 2024) prompted authorities to evacuate the factory and warn residents in the industrial xxx town to stay indoors with their doors and windows shut as toxic fumes spewed into the air.

According to state broadcaster, the Fire Service said that a tank containing 1.5 tons of nitric acid was burning in the blaze, which broke out in the yard of the plant on xxx Street in the xxx district.

A disaster response unit specializing in chemical accidents was dispatched to the scene, along with 25 firefighters, eight firetrucks and several water trucks from the local municipal authority to contain the blaze.

The fire that broke out in small tanks of nitric acid and packaged fertilizers in the courtyard of a chemical and fertilizer factory in xxx on Tuesday, has been brought under control.

A total of 45 firefighters, including a special chemical unit, along with 13 vehicles, three of them specialized, and two helicopters were deployed to the scene.

During the firefighting efforts, three firefighters experienced respiratory problems and were transported to xxx Hospital.
