1967 Cook 3337297 Combined NH3 and ammonium salts

This patent written by Cook and Mavrovic describes a combined process to produce ammonia and ammonium salts. Carbon dioxide is removed from the compressed crude synthesis gas by bringing it in contact with ammonia and water at elevated pressures. Ammonium carbonate is formed in the liquid phase which is converted to a salt by reaction with an acid. The gaseous effluent is then brought to ammonia synthesis conditions.
