It is certainly well established that a compressor introduces lubricating oil into the compressed gas. In the chemical processing industry the introduction of lubricating oil into compressed gases is undesirable because it is a contaminant; it is possibly explosive in compressed oxygen. However, most important in subsequent liquefaction, entrained oil will impinge or condense on heat exchanger surfaces reducing the heat transfer coefficient, and clogging gas passageways.
